What is the normal value of the brain's septum pellucidum?

Patient's question:

We are now concerned about the issue of the cerebral aqueduct. It is 0.92. What value is within the range?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: The transparent septum is composed of white matter cells or ectopic gray matter cells and nerve fibers. It is a double-layered membrane that separates the left and right ventricles of the brain. If brain tissue fusion is incomplete during the early embryonic stage, a potential gap can form in the middle of the transparent septum and persist. If the secreted and accumulated fluid gradually increases, the gap will significantly expand and bulge outward, forming a transparent septum cyst. When the accumulated fluid inside the cyst exceeds a transverse diameter of 5 millimeters, the interventricular foramen may be obstructed, leading to cerebrospinal fluid circulation disorders. This can cause symptoms due to increased intracranial pressure, with the most prominent manifestation being seizures. However, in most patients, only diffuse epileptic discharges are visible on the electroencephalogram, making it easy to misdiagnose as epilepsy. Here, we introduce two clinical cases of children for reference by colleagues.
