Optical a few dry English sentences is not enough. Don't always put the purpose of reading in improving English. Reading is primarily about absorbing knowledge, and in the process of absorbing knowledge, language is naturally absorbed. Using English thinking is a realm that many English learners hope to achieve, because it is the foundation of expressing thoughts fluently in English. For a Chinese student living in a non-English environment, it is indeed very difficult to think partly or entirely in English, but it is not out of reach. From my own experience in learning English, I have found that persistent extensive reading is one of the most effective ways to achieve this goal.
He Qixin (Vice President and Doctoral Supervisor of Beijing Foreign Studies University) especially recommends English easy readers for beginners and intermediate learners. The materials should be easy to understand, with a strong narrative element, and the reading speed should be as fast as possible. The more you read, the better. This is a proven and effective method for learning English.

The novel Sense and Sensibility primarily revolves around the intricate emotional experiences of the two female protagonists. As the title reveals, the two protagonists—Elinor, the older sister, and Marianne, the younger sister—have completely different personalities: one is rational, and the other is emotional. The general plot of the novel is as follows: Mr. Dashwood had one son, John, from his first wife, and three daughters, Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret, from his second wife. After Mr. Dashwood's death, he left his inheritance to his son, leaving almost nothing for his three daughters. However, on his deathbed, he asked his son to take good care of his stepmother and sisters, and his son agreed. However, John Dashwood's wife, Fanny, strongly opposed her husband helping them and was also quite unfriendly toward them. As a result, after staying at Norland Park, the family moved to Barton Cottage. This cottage was rented to them by a kind, well-meaning uncle of Mrs. Dashwood, John Middleton. There, they began a new life.
Mr. Middleton was very hospitable and often invited the Dashwood sisters to various social events. Through this, they gradually met people such as Mrs. Middleton, Mrs. Jennings, Colonel Brandon, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, and the Steels.
As early as Norland Park, Elinor and Edward—John Dashwood's younger brother—began to develop feelings for each other. After Elinor moved to Barton Cottage, Edward did not visit her for two weeks. They fell in love, but their feelings were not passionate; they were rather mild and steady. Unlike her sister, Marianne shed too many tears on the path of love.
