What should I do if I got pregnant again in October after having an abortion in August?

Patient's question:

My friend had an abortion in August and got pregnant again in October (it's supposed to be too soon to get pregnant again). Can she keep her child? Additional question: Could you please ask: What are the common adverse effects on the fetus or the mother?

Doctor's answer:

Based on your situation, it is recommended to undergo prenatal examinations. Prenatal examinations, if possible, should ideally be conducted once a month. If the situation does not permit, targeted examinations can be performed. Generally speaking, ultrasound has little impact on the baby and can be appropriately performed. At least four ultrasound examinations are usually required. At 12 weeks of pregnancy, intrauterine pregnancy is confirmed, and abnormal pregnancies are ruled out. Between weeks 18-20 of pregnancy, gestational age is verified, and fetal abnormalities are excluded. Between weeks 32-36 of pregnancy, fetal development is assessed, and fetal abnormalities are ruled out again. For those who are at or beyond their due date and have not delivered within two weeks, another ultrasound examination is performed to primarily assess placental maturity, amniotic fluid volume and quality, indirectly evaluating placental function, thereby determining whether pregnancy can continue and deciding on the mode of delivery. Additionally, other examinations may be required based on the situation, such as the triple screen test between weeks 16-18.
