Patient's question:
My girlfriend's period ended on October 25th. On December 4th, she took a pregnancy test and it was positive. However, when she had an ultrasound, the doctor said it was too early to determine anything, but couldn't rule out an ectopic pregnancy. Now, my friend is experiencing mild lower abdominal pain every day. Could it still be possible to have an ectopic pregnancy in this situation, especially since it has been so long? Thank you!First follow-up question: I would like to ask the experts on this site for a detailed answer, if possible. Thank you!
Doctor's answer:
If you confirm pregnancy, it is best to have a comprehensive early pregnancy check-up at the hospital within six weeks after your menstrual period stops. During the fertile period, if you experience a brief menstrual stop followed by unexplained dull pain or aching in one side of the lower abdomen, you should be highly alert to the possibility of ectopic pregnancy. The diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy is usually made through ultrasound, blood HCG tests, which can be performed as early as 14 days after intercourse. Posterior vaginal fornix puncture and laparoscopy can also confirm the diagnosis.
