At what age can a child roll over?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: Currently, he/she is not able to roll over on his/her own. Is this normal? Is it due to a vitamin deficiency?

Doctor's answer:

There is a saying in folk wisdom that babies go through three rolls, six sits, and eight crawls. Tummy time (reversing) often occurs after the baby can hold their head up, which is common in infants aged 4-7 months. However, the exact time it takes for a baby to achieve this movement varies from child to child. Some children may roll over once before the age of three months and never roll over again, while others may skip rolling altogether and directly start sitting or standing. There are also cases where a child starts learning to roll over only after they begin to stand.
At around four months, you can gradually start training your baby in this area. When the baby is lying on their back, place their right leg on top of their left leg, bend their arms, and gently pull their right hand while using the other hand to push their back, slowly turning them into a prone position. You can also use colorful and engaging toys to attract the baby to roll over on their own, encouraging them continuously. If the room temperature allows, dress the baby in fewer clothes, keeping them loose to avoid hindering their body's flexibility. With daily practice, they will gradually learn.
