Is it serious if there is 3.5cm of fluid in the pelvis and what are the effects?

Patient's question:

Clinical Description: Ultrasound diagnosis: Normal uterine morphology, size 5.04.43.4cm, uniform internal echo of the muscular wall, irregular liquid dark areas observed around and behind the uterus, depth of 3.5cm.
Ultrasound diagnosis: Pelvic effusion
History of treatment and effectiveness: Received intravenous fluids for 4 days. Initially experienced severe lower abdominal pain, which has now improved. Menstruation recently ended, but there is still slight bleeding.
Desired help: I have not given birth yet and plan to have a baby next year. I am wondering what impact this may have.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, pelvic effusion can be divided into two types: physiological and pathological.
1. Physiological pelvic effusion: Some normal women may have a small amount of blood accumulated in the pelvic cavity during the menstrual period, ovulation period, and early pregnancy, forming pelvic effusion. Such pelvic effusion usually contains less fluid and gradually absorbs, often disappearing naturally.
2. Pathological pelvic effusion: Pathological pelvic effusion in gynecology is mostly caused by pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis, or endometriosis. Clinically, most women's pelvic effusion is due to inflammation, where inflammatory exudates are present in the pelvic cavity. If left untreated, the effusion can gradually increase. If it becomes too large, medication may not be effective in resolving it. However, with active symptomatic treatment, pelvic effusion can disappear quickly.
After the pelvic effusion disappears, it does not affect pregnancy. Targeted measures can be taken for treatment based on the confirmed diagnosis, such as general medication, traditional Chinese medicine, physical therapy, or surgery.
Wishing you good health!
