Chinese Ancient Thought and Culture: A Random Reflection

Features: The articles in this book vary in length, but the key lies in whether they offer independent insights and originality. To "draw a scoop" from the vast and profound ocean of Chinese traditional culture is already rare and valuable. Jiubin has organized the articles in this book into three parts. If we read these three parts in reverse order, then "The Art and Literature Reflections" is about ancient Chinese literary theory, poetic theory, and case analyses of representative writers and works. It is through these specific "insights" that he can boldly explore major aesthetic propositions of ancient China in the second part, "The Aesthetics Exploration." Jiubin's perspective in researching issues is not a broad scan but rather focuses on aesthetic thoughts in the I Ching, Laozi, Zhuangzi, and Confucianism. This is an academic approach that traces the roots to grasp the essence. Following this line of thought will open up a vast academic field, providing an inexhaustible source of academic inspiration.
When studying ancient Chinese aesthetics, one cannot stop at merely observing some literary phenomena; it must be studied within its cultural context. First and foremost, it must be examined against the backdrop of ancient Chinese philosophy and cultural thought. Therefore, Jiubin has placed the study of the philosophical thoughts of figures like Mencius, Xunzi, and Zhuangzi in the "Philosophical Reflections" section, which is very insightful. It can be said that ancient Chinese aesthetic thought was shaped under the influence of various philosophical schools, including Confucianism, Laozi-Zhuangzi, and later Buddhism. Without studying Confucius, Mencius, Laozi, Zhuangzi, or Buddhist thought, how can one truly understand the essence of ancient Chinese aesthetics?
Thus, there are inherent connections between these three parts. If the author is inclined to conduct a comprehensive study of ancient Chinese aesthetics in the future, he must expand the scope of his research and deepen its depth, moving from specific cases to theoretical generalizations. Only in this way can he trace the origins and explore the essence of his research, elevating it to a new level.
