Features: Unwilling to be sold by her father as a hostess, Aixin flees to Tokyo to learn hairdressing skills. After marrying Tatsuzo, her mother-in-law disdains her humble origins and refuses to recognize the marriage. Determined to build a career, the couple opens a ready-to-wear garment processing factory. However, just as the business flourishes, a sudden Kanto earthquake destroys everything. Desperate, Tatsuzo and Aixin turn to their in-laws for help. The mother-in-law subjects Aixin to relentless abuse, leading to the stillbirth of their daughter. Heartbroken, Aixin takes her child and leaves her in-laws, embarking on another long journey to Tokyo.
