Features: To briefly outline the century-long trajectory of art trends in theory, we have planned to edit two series of books: "20th Century Chinese Masters on Painting" and "20th Century Foreign Masters on Art." This way, horizontally, it presents the essence of masters' theories on painting, while vertically, it offers a concise history of a century's worth of art trends, serving as a bold and comprehensive of the development of art theory from points to lines. The "20th Century Chinese Masters on Painting" series was published in 1999, and this series, "20th Century Foreign Masters on Art," serves as its companion. Since the master's statements included in this series extend beyond the realm of painting, the term "painting theory" has been changed to "art theory." This series collects the artistic insights of 12 masters who hold significant positions in the history of 20th-century world art, following the general progression from orthodox to non-orthodox, or from external impression to internal expression. The editors and compilers of this series are experts and scholars engaged in art research, as well as graduate students under their guidance. Due to the scattered nature of most previously available theories on foreign artists' art, the compilers of this series have specifically collected and translated numerous primary sources from both domestic and international sources.
