How is congenital vaginal atresia treated?

Patient's question:

Is there a woman without a vagina, what should I do?

Doctor's answer:

I. Treatment Principles
1. Indications for Surgery: All cases with a confirmed diagnosis should undergo surgical treatment.
2. Surgical Methods:
- Skin grafting for vaginal reconstruction using medium-thickness skin.
- Vaginal reconstruction using labial flaps:
- Labia majora flap vaginal reconstruction.
- Labia minora flap vaginal reconstruction.
II. Medication Principles
1. Maintain external genital hygiene by cleaning the area with 0.1% New Jellim daily.
2. Leave the urinary catheter in place until the stitches are removed.
3. Adjust the diet to a low-fiber semi-liquid diet, and take opium tincture orally to control bowel movements for 5–7 days.
4. Immediately insert a mold for support after suture removal and keep it in place for about six months to prevent the skin graft from contracting and narrowing the vagina. The patient must be instructed on external genital hygiene and mold use. If necessary, two molds can be alternated.
5. Use antibiotics to prevent infection.
