Does ectopic pregnancy require immediate surgery?

Patient's question:

Patient Gender: I am currently 33 weeks pregnant. During the ultrasound, no gestational sac was found in the uterus, but there was pelvic fluid and a foreign body mass. The doctor said it could be an ectopic pregnancy, or it could be that the gestational sac wasn't detected during pregnancy, or it could be a blood clot from a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Could it be an ectopic pregnancy? If so, what should I do now? Do I need surgery?

Doctor's answer:

Not necessarily. If an ectopic pregnancy has not ruptured, oral medication such as mifepristone can be used to terminate it. If it has ruptured and there is significant bleeding, surgical treatment is required. The diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy should be based on a combination of blood tests, symptoms, and ultrasound examinations. In some cases, posterior fornix puncture may also be necessary. Please observe any current symptoms, such as vaginal bleeding or abdominal pain, and first undergo a blood HCG test.
