How to use an ovulation test strip?

Patient's question:

Hello! My friend used an ovulation test strip today to check for ovulation. At noon, there were two very dark lines, but just now, the test line has become lighter. What could be the reason? The instructions for the ovulation test strip state that the test line must be darker than the control area to indicate ovulation within 14-28 hours. It's a "Xiur" colloidal gold ovulation test strip. Is this accurate? If I want to have a child, is it better to have intercourse before ovulation or after ovulation? Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, if your menstrual cycle is regular, you can start testing with an ovulation test strip from the 10th to 11th day of your period. Once you get a strong positive result, test every four hours to catch the moment when the strong positive turns into a weak positive. Approximately 24 to 48 hours after this moment, ovulation occurs. Therefore, you can have intercourse one day after getting a strong positive result, and continue until two days after the weak positive appears.
It is generally best to use urine samples collected between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Do not drink too much water before testing, as it can affect the results.
