Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I would like to ask what trichomoniasis is? Did he transmit it to me? I heard that it can only be spread through sexual activity. Is there something wrong with him or is he unfaithful to me?Doctor's answer:
Treatment of Trichomoniasis Vaginitis:1) Adjusting the vaginal pH: Trichomonas thrives in a pH range of 5.5–6. Therefore, rinsing the vagina with an acetic acid solution containing metronidazole can lower the vaginal pH and inhibit the growth of trichomonads. Do this once daily for a 10-day course.
2) Using metronidazole vaginal suppositories or metronidazole tablets: Insert one tablet into the vagina after each vaginal rinse. Follow this for a 10-day course.
3) Pay attention to the following:
a) Maintain hygiene: Wash the external genitalia daily and change underwear frequently. Boil underwear and towels after use, and air out bedding often. Avoid sexual intercourse.
b) Do not scratch. If symptoms such as external genital itching occur, use traditional Chinese medicine topical washes for the external genitalia for soaking baths. Avoid scratching to prevent skin and mucosal damage, which may lead to secondary infections.
c) Abstain from sexual activity. Sexual activity should be avoided during treatment, and the partner should be examined by a urologist. If infection is detected in the urine, prompt treatment is necessary.
d) Avoid spicy foods. Reduce intake of common spicy foods like chili, pepper, and curry, as well as hot foods such as mutton, dog meat, and longan. Avoid seafood (e.g., shrimp, crabs, and shellfish) and sweet, greasy foods, as they may worsen itching.
