What does it mean if there are 3 red blood cells in a urine test?

Patient's question:

I am 2 months pregnant. My mouth is especially dry, and I keep getting up at night to drink water and urinate frequently. The experts previously recommended that I get my blood sugar tested, so my attending doctor conducted a 12-item urine test for me. Out of the 12 items, 11 were normal, but one showed high red blood cells with a result of 3, while the reference range is 0-1. What does this mean? The doctor said not to worry about it and to wait for a follow-up test later. I'm a bit confused. Could the experts clarify this?
Additional question: Is this a serious issue? Could it affect the fetus? The doctor told me not to worry about it for now. Is this okay? What should I do?

Doctor's answer:

You may have hematuria. Hematuria is primarily characterized by the presence of more than or equal to 3 red blood cells/HPF in the urine, more than 5 red blood cells/HPF in centrifuged urine, or more than 500,000 red blood cells in a 12-hour Addis count. The cause of hematuria could be bleeding disorders, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases, endocrine and metabolic diseases, etc. It is currently not possible to determine the specific cause.
It is recommended that you visit the nephrology department of a regular tertiary hospital for diagnosis and treatment. Further tests are needed to identify the underlying cause of your hematuria. You should actively cooperate with the treatment.
