What are the treatments for ovarian cysts?

Patient's question:

Please ask:
1. Since I am unmarried, I can only have a B to check gynecological diseases. Is it accurate to use B to detect ovarian cysts? Could there be misdiagnosis?
2. What causes ovarian cysts?
3. Besides surgical removal, what other treatments are available for ovarian cysts?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, most ovarian cysts are detected through ultrasound. The causes of ovarian cysts are:
(1) Blood and Qi stagnation: Exposure to cold during menstruation or postpartum can cause blood to stagnate due to cold. Alternatively, internal emotional distress, such as depression that harms the liver, can disrupt Qi flow, leading to Qi stagnation and blood stagnation. If this stagnation persists for a long time, it may develop into cancer.
(2) Phlegm and blood stasis: Excessive worry can harm the spleen, leading to phlegm production. Phlegm accumulation can obstruct Qi flow, causing Qi stagnation and blood stasis. Phlegm and blood stasis combine to form lumps. If phlegm and blood stasis accumulate for a long time, they may develop into cancer.
The only treatment for benign ovarian tumors is surgical removal. For cysts smaller than 5–6 cm in diameter, observation for 3–6 months is recommended. If the cyst continues to grow, or if the tumor is solid despite being smaller than 5 cm, surgical removal is necessary. For children and young, childless patients, unilateral oophorectomy or unilateral adnexectomy is often performed. If both ovaries have benign tumors, the doctor may consider ovarian cystectomy to preserve as much ovarian tissue as possible, maintaining menstrual and fertility functions. Laparoscopic surgery involves small abdominal incisions and rapid recovery.
