Features: Logical reasoning is an important subject in the domestic MBA, MPA, MPAcc, and GCT unified exams. As China's higher education gradually aligns with international standards, China's professional master's entrance exams are also gradually adopting the examination models of the U.S. GRE, GMAT, and LSAT, with the logic subject being the most prominent example. The logic exam is a type of test that applies the basic principles of logic to various themes in daily life, assessing students' ability to demonstrate rigorous logical reasoning skills and adaptability in handling a large amount of information under complex circumstances. Professional degrees such as Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc), and Master of Engineering (ME) are designed as career-oriented degrees to cultivate high-level specialized talents for specific professions. MBA programs aim to train high-quality, leadership-oriented professional business management talents. The national entrance exam for MBA candidates, established in 1997 for this purpose, is abbreviated as the MBA Unified Exam. The MPA program aims to train high-level, applied specialists for government and non-governmental public institutions. The national entrance exam for MPA candidates, established in 2001 for this purpose, is abbreviated as the MPA Unified Exam. The MPAcc program aims to train high-level, high-quality, and applied accounting professionals with the ability to solve practical problems. The entrance exam for MPAcc candidates, implemented since 2004, is abbreviated as the MPAcc Unified Exam. The Master of Engineering program primarily focuses on cultivating high-level engineering technology and engineering management talents. The national graduate entrance qualification examination for master's degree professional programs, known in English as the Graduate Candidate Test for Master (GCT), was established in 2003, and agricultural extension and veterinary master's programs also adopted the GCT format in 2004. In these four major exams, the syllabus requirements for logical reasoning are essentially the same, and the question types are also largely compatible, all being multiple-choice questions. The only difference is that the first three exams are five-choice (each question includes five options), while GCT is four-choice. In essence, the proposition basis, scope, difficulty, and requirements for logical reasoning questions in all four exams are consistent, making logical reasoning compatible across these exams. The test objectives for logic are to evaluate candidates' critical thinking skills, logical argumentation skills, and analytical reasoning skills. The test content does not involve any professional knowledge, and its test characteristics prioritize speed over difficulty. In this challenging, performance-based test, candidates need both strong comprehensive abilities and effective exam strategies.
I. Main Experiences for Logical Exam Preparation:
Practice makes perfect. One of the most easily overlooked shortcuts in logical exam preparation is improving rapid problem-solving skills through past exam papers. The questions in logical reasoning exhibit strong continuity, with frequently tested areas often repeating. Past exam papers from all four exams hold significant reference value, and it is common knowledge that questions from the same exam type may reappear, while logical questions from different exam types often draw inspiration from one another. Therefore, past exam papers are the best reference materials for logical exam preparation. The key to logical preparation lies in improving problem-solving skills through practice, predicting future question patterns, and understanding problem-solving strategies from past papers. Since a set of exam papers requires expert teams to spend a year refining them, the quality of the questions is naturally far superior to those in various coaching books. Practicing past exam papers not only familiarizes you with question types and solving patterns but also gives you a sense of familiarity when taking the actual exam, creating a psychological advantage of confidence. Thus, repeatedly studying past exam papers is the most effective way to conquer the logical exam. Since logical problem-solving skills develop only after a certain volume of practice, mastering past exam papers is essential for improving logical performance. During this process, it is crucial to carefully analyze the questions and answers. Many traps and solving methods in logical questions require gradual understanding. Through intensive practice, candidates will fully grasp the syllabus requirements and exam characteristics, and by analyzing the questions, they can master the question-setting logic and identify rapid-solving techniques, thereby improving their speed and ability in solving logical problems.
II. Preparation Strategies for Logical Reasoning:
Type-based strategy. The focus of the logical exam is on the comprehensive application of knowledge and the ability to solve practical problems, which is reflected in the flexibility of exam questions. Solving techniques and intuition can only be truly mastered and consolidated through repeated practice. Therefore, the secret to high scores lies in type-based methods. Type-based methods are the most practical and effective approach, referring to specific methods for handling different types of problems based on the main characteristics of each question type. The finer the classification, the more practical the method, and the clearer the understanding of type characteristics, the more significant the results. Good solving methods are simple and efficient, often vastly superior to inefficient ones. For this reason, this book provides in-depth analysis and exploration of logical question types, using the format of "teaching methods through question types," categorizing past exam papers into different types and solving patterns, and providing detailed explanations. Through the analysis of a large number of past exam papers, the book aims to thoroughly analyze the characteristics and solving methods of each pattern. The solving methods and techniques summarized in this book are easy for candidates to grasp and apply, ensuring clear thinking and targeted answers during the exam. Since the past exam papers cited in this book are typical, and the summarized solving methods follow patterns that can be emulated, they will help expand candidates' thinking. By comparing the methods and techniques summarized in this book with the corresponding analysis, candidates can fully integrate, generalize, and apply the knowledge effectively. We believe this will be the most effective practical guidance for candidates.
III. High-Score Secrets for Logical Exam:
Develop a sense of familiarity through practice. The characteristics of the logical exam are: clear focus, relatively fixed question formats, and detailed assessment requiring precise understanding. The four professional master's entrance exams are selective exams, and the questions in the logical exam do not simply test the memorization and recitation of concepts and principles but rather assess the application of logical reasoning and the ability to analyze and solve practical problems. Therefore, the most effective way to improve logical performance is through intensive practice. Intensive practice refers to repeatedly solving problems, training in solving patterns according to question types, and gradually grasping the proposition patterns of various question types to develop a sense of familiarity. Only by solving problems quickly and accurately can candidates achieve high scores in logic. Logical reasoning is a skill, which is an inherent ability in everyone but can be manifested and improved through cultivation and training. The process of solving problems is the process of training and improving this skill. Only through extensive practice will you enhance your rapid response and problem-solving abilities. Therefore, basic training must be repeated, and intensive practice should be emphasized to achieve proficiency—“practice makes perfect.” Only through extensive practice can you develop a sense of familiarity.
Based on the above understanding, the guiding principle of this book's compilation is to start from the candidates' actual needs, with the goal of training daily logical thinking abilities and the foundation of extensive practice, effectively combining thinking training with solving techniques. The purpose is to help candidates with non-logical backgrounds better prepare for the logical exam through practice, effectively improving their practical abilities. During the process of using this book for logical preparation, candidates should gradually summarize and reflect on the commonalities and regular patterns of logical exam questions, transforming these into their internal thinking methods and senses. This method and sense will undoubtedly guide candidates toward achieving high scores in logic.
