Features: This book aims to provide translation learners with materials for reflection, discussion, and imitation within a clear theoretical framework, guiding and helping them explore ways to improve their translation skills under the guidance of theoretical principles, combining their own practices. The book is primarily intended for junior and senior English undergraduates. Students who have passed the College English Test Band 4 or readers with equivalent English proficiency can also read it. It can be used for classroom teaching or as extracurricular reading. The book is divided into five chapters. Chapter focuses on the comparison between Chinese and English, highlighting issues that should be particularly noted from the perspective of translating into English. It aims to guide students to read Chinese and English articles separately, savoring the characteristics and nuances of the two languages. This is the foundation for improving translation skills.
Chapter 2 discusses translation skills, attempting to analyze Chinese-to-English translation materials through a functional comparison framework, thereby describing certain regular translation phenomena and helping students of Chinese-to-English translation establish an observational perspective, learn from others' translation experiences, and broaden their own translation.
Chapters 3 to 5 discuss the translation of different types of discourse, such as narrative, argumentative, and expository texts. Each chapter is divided into several units, with each unit consisting of original text, translation, annotations, and focused discussion questions. The original texts and translations include both short passages and excerpts. Annotations aim to point out difficulties or noteworthy issues in the translation of each passage or section. Focused discussion questions expand slightly on key issues, provide additional examples, and encourage further reflection.
