Publish Date: 2006-03-01
Features: Civilization is the intrinsic value of culture, and culture is the external form of civilization. Civilization is unitary, measured by the extent to which human basic needs and comprehensive development are met; culture is pluralistic, based on the different conditions of various ethnic groups, regions, and eras. The author of this book begins with the definition and reflection of these two concepts, conducting a serious and systematic study on the issue of civilization and culture. This book can be considered a sister volume to Accumulation and Breakthrough: , In content, both are collections of papers selected by the author, with no overlapping essays. Second, in terms of time, Accumulation and Breakthrough mainly includes articles the author considered satisfactory before 1997; while Civilization and Culture primarily selects important papers written by the author between 1997 and 2005. Third, in structure, both books do not form a "system," covering a wide range of fields. Fourth, in editing, both books have undergone minor revisions or restorations based on previously published texts.
