When people talk about this great ancient civilization, they often associate it with fundamentalism, fanaticism, and terrorism. As an Iranian who grew up in Iran, we know that this image is far from the truth. It is precisely for this reason that creating "Persepolis: I Grow Up in Iran" has been so important to me. I believe that a country should not be judged based on the actions of a few extremists. I also do not want people to forget the Iranians who have lost their lives in prisons defending freedom, died in the Iran-Iraq War, suffered under various tyrannical regimes, or were forced to leave their families and their homeland. One can forgive, but one must never forget. — Marjane Satrapi
