As an Iranian who grew up in Iran, we know that this image is far from the truth. It is precisely for this reason that creating Persepolis: I Grow Up in Iran has been so important to me. I believe that a country should not be judged based on the actions of a few extremists. I also do not want people to forget the Iranians who lost their lives in prison while defending freedom, perished in the Iran-Iraq War, suffered under various tyrannical regimes, or were forced to leave their families and their homeland.
