Features: Based on the study of Western classical to modern art history, the single-factor teaching method is formed by the decomposition and combination of various elements of painting (such as form, light and shadow, space, texture, etc.). It is mainly aimed at students preparing to take exams for art colleges, allowing immediate results in a short period of time; it is also suitable for self-learners to further their studies, enter a creative state, and for basic education in middle and high art schools. There are various different opinions and statements regarding basic art education, mainly due to two reasons: (1) The current development of art has made traditional teaching methods unsuitable. (2) The phenomena and styles of modern art have caused skepticism about the current basic education in painting. To address these two issues, it is necessary here to briefly review the history of Western art from a fresh perspective, the journey from classical to modern art, and the role and evolution of the various elements of painting in this historical river. This provides an inspiring image for finding the development direction of painting art education in the 21st century.
