He served as the national chief engineer and dedicated his life to the field of art printing and currency printing. Utilizing over a decade of his spare time, he studied the principles of writing regular script efficiently and quickly based on the theories of Chinese calligraphers. He combined the summarized theories of regular script calligraphy with representative works of famous calligraphers from past generations to compile and publish the standard practice books for the Ou, Yan, and Liu styles, as well as the interframe structure practice book for the Liu-style regular script. After the "Cultural Revolution," his eldest daughter, Liu Lun, inherited her father's wish to continue compiling standard practice books for other calligraphic styles.
