The young prince Zhu Youjian, the younger brother of Emperor Tianqi, was naturally intelligent and full of ambition. With the steadfast support of Wu Fenglou, the orphaned heir of a loyal minister, and the martial artists of the Five Mountains and Three Birds, he engaged in a fierce struggle against the treacherous eunuchs and their die-hard followers, the Embroidered Guard.
The story begins with Wu Fenglou studying martial arts on Mount Song and accidentally saving Wei Yinping, the daughter of Wei Zhongxian's enemy, Wei Zhongying, in the Eagle's Worry Gully. It then follows a series of thrilling adventures, including the shocking events in Hangzhou, the loss of his father and family, rescuing his mother from a demon's lair, forced marriage in adversity, saving the Prince of Xingyang from the imperial mausoleum, forming enmity in Yuanjiabu out of love, the Three Birds' pranks on the demoness, and the chaos they cause in Xuzhou with the Twin Ghosts' judicial battle. Ultimately, Wu Fenglou and the Five Mountains and Three Birds break through the layers of mist surrounding the female demon Hou Guoying, infiltrate the enemy's heart, and engage in an even fiercer struggle with the treacherous eunuch Wei Zhongxian.
At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the eunuch Wei Zhongxian recruited martial artists from the martial arts world and placed his trusted lieutenants in command, aiming to usurp the throne during the emperor's illness. Wu Fenglou (the third-generation inheritor of the Pre-Natal Wujijie sect) and his master companions, the Five Mountains and Three Birds (the Golden Eagle with Wings Xiao Jianqiu, the Eagle of the Clouds Bai Jianfei, and the Sky-Diving Falcon Jiang Jianchen), along with other martial artists, stood firmly by the fifth prince Zhu Youjian (the future Emperor Chongzhen) and engaged in a bloody and fierce struggle against the rebellious faction of Wei Zhongxian. In the end, they defeated the top eunuch faction's inner palace experts—"One Poison, Two Guests, Three Monks, Four Fiends, Five Ghosts, Six Monsters, Seven Villains, Eight Demons"—and helped the fifth prince ascend the throne as the Son of Heaven.
After Emperor Chongzhen ascended the throne, he was arrogant, suspicious, and distrustful. This was partly because, during his undercover mission in the Qingyang Palace, Jiang Jianchen (the Sky-Diving Falcon) was tricked into marrying the Embroidered Guard's commander (the female demon Hou Guoying). Although Jiang Jianchen played a major role, the emperor still subjected him to various hardships. Adding to this, the remnants of the Wei faction, the "Seven Villains," took advantage of the situation to frame loyal officials, leading to a series of thrilling events: Jiang Jianchen being ordered to kill his wife, the heroes causing chaos on Great City Island, the female demon jumping off a cliff into the sea, the eunuchs stealing the imperial treasures, Jiang Jianchen swiftly beheading the Seven Villains, and Hou Guoying revisiting the ancient Pengcheng.
