Features: The English-Chinese Medical Vocabulary (th Edition) has been published since 1978, printed multiple times, and distributed over 150,000 copies, exerting considerable influence in China's medical and health field. However, the book has been out for over 20 years, during which medical science has advanced rapidly, research fields have expanded, and new disciplines, theories, concepts, and technologies have continuously emerged, with a large number of new terms needing to be added. Additionally, many terms in the th Edition are no longer in use, some classifications are inappropriate, some translations are inaccurate, and some even contain spelling or explanatory errors, urgently requiring deletion and correction. Under the commission of the People's Medical Publishing House, we organized over 180 scholars and professors from clinical medicine, basic medicine, health prevention, pharmacology, and other disciplines to work together, overcome various difficulties, and make significant revisions and supplements to the book to meet the needs of medical and health workers, as well as students and teachers of medical schools and translators. Based on the th Edition, we expanded the scope of vocabulary, extensively collected new terms emerging in recent years, primarily referencing the renowned American medical dictionary Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary (28th Edition), and selected many new terms from famous publications in Western countries. We also used the translated names of medical terms published by the National Committee for the Examination of Technical Terms to standardize the naming. The book has been repeatedly reviewed and proofread by all editorial committee members and standing editorial committee members, with cross-reviews by associate editors, and finally edited into its final form by the chief editor. The book features a large vocabulary and broad coverage, encompassing terminology from over 60 disciplines in medical and health fields, with approximately 160,000 entries. Compared to the th Edition, the second edition of this vocabulary deletes about 5 obsolete terms and adds nearly 60,000 new terms. Nine appendices are included at the end of the book, such as acupuncture and moxibustion point names, Latin names of Chinese herbal medicines, names of Chinese herbal medicine materials, and abbreviations of medical institutions.
