Features: The characteristics of this textbook are reflected in its modular framework structure, including a theoretical knowledge foundation module, an optional module, and a practical teaching module (including basic experiments and optional experiments). Class time is focused on the foundation module and the practical teaching module. The foundation module and basic experiments are content that all directions of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) major should complete in teaching; the optional module and optional experiments (marked with in the textbook index) can be selected by schools based on students' majors, specialized requirements, and local characteristics for teaching and experiments. The content is developed based on the main professional courses of secondary vocational schools in TCM, as well as the basic knowledge, fundamental theories, and basic skills required for job groups. It emphasizes sufficiency, weakens the systematic nature of disciplines, and reduces parts that are not aligned with the training objectives, such as principle derivations, structural identification of TCM chemical components, etc. To facilitate self-study, each chapter includes [Thoughts and Exercises] and commonly used TCM containing such components. Main chapters are arranged with experimental teaching to strengthen the connection between theory and practice, enhance students' innovative and practical abilities, and embody the competency-based vocational education concept. The textbook focuses on explaining the basic knowledge of the extraction and separation of chemical components in TCM, as well as the basic structures, physicochemical properties, and fundamental theories and operational key points of major types such as alkaloids, glycosides, and volatile oils for extraction, separation, and identification.
