It is precisely this tragic consciousness and its unique artistic expression that allowed modern Chinese literature to reach the depths of national emotions and thoughts. Therefore, the rich and distinctive spirit of tragedy is an important legacy of modern Chinese literature, and the tragic perspective serves as a key to interpreting it. This book explores the tragic phenomena in modern Chinese literature from a combination of macro and micro perspectives in a relatively systematic manner.
Macroscopically, it examines the concepts and theories of tragedy in the 20th century in both the East and the West, investigates the generation of tragic consciousness and the characteristics of tragic spirit in modern Chinese literature, and places the tragic artistic creations of modern Chinese writers within the historical development of Chinese tragic art and the dialogue between Chinese and Western tragic aesthetics. It analyzes their significant academic value in the long river of tragic art in both the East and the West. This constitutes the main part of the "Upper Part" of this paper.
Microscopically, it conducts a specific study of several representative tragic writers and their works in the history of modern Chinese literature, reinterpreting and elucidating the tragic spirit embedded in the texts, and appreciating their distinctive tragic artistic expressions.
