Features: Pan Zhulan (1909—2001), originally named Ding, was born in Changle, Fujian. He was born on August 21, 1909 (the sixth day of the seventh month in the first year of the Xuantong era of the Qing Dynasty) in Fuzhou. In 1928, he graduated from the Chinese Language Department of Fujian Economic Society. From 1929 to 1937, he worked as a teacher. After the founding of New China, he began teaching at Fuzhou Art and Crafts College in 1956, lecturing on Chinese language, calligraphy, and art theory. Since the late 1970s, he successively served as Vice President of the Fuzhou Calligraphy and Seal Carving Research Association, Vice Director of the Fuzhou Painting Institute, Vice President and Advisor of the Fujian Provincial Calligraphy Association, Advisor of the Fuzhou Calligraphy Association, and Chief Academic Advisor of the Fuzhou Painting and Calligraphy Research Institute. He is a member of the China Calligraphers Association, a member of the Seal Carving Art Committee of the China Calligraphers Association, a member of the Xiling Seal Society, and the Honorary Chairman of the Fuzhou Literature and Art Federation. He is also the Vice President and Advisor of the Fujian Provincial Poetry Society, and an Advisor of the China Poetry Society. In November 1982, he was appointed as a Research Fellow of the Fujian Provincial Academy of History and Culture by the Fujian Provincial People's Government. In March 1989, he was rated as a First-Class National Artist. Pan Zhulan was a member of the China Democratic League and a member of the Fuzhou Municipal People's Congress for the sixth and seventh terms. Pan Zhulan's works include "Pan Zhulan's Seal Selection," "Pan Zhulan's Poetry, Calligraphy, Painting, and Seal," "Record of Modern Seal Carvers," "Spring and Autumn of Fujian Painters," and "On Seal Carving Art." Pan Zhulan is a renowned contemporary calligrapher and seal carver, who dedicated his life to the study of oracle bone script and applied it in practice. He created a large number of oracle bone script calligraphy works, resolved the difficulties of character usage in oracle bone script calligraphy creation, and expanded the path of oracle bone script calligraphy creation. After the book was published in 2002, it received widespread praise from calligraphers, painters, and readers. My teacher was an art master who combined poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving. His artistic integrity is highly regarded by people today.
