Features: The Great Dictionary is a large-scale comprehensive dictionary. Its publication fills a gap in Chinese lexicography. To date, The Cihai is the only large-scale comprehensive dictionary in China. It includes both single characters and common terms, as well as specialized terms across various fields, serving the functions of both a general dictionary and a specialized dictionary. With rich vocabulary, convenient retrieval, and strong practicality, it is deeply favored by readers. With the accelerating pace of human knowledge accumulation and innovation, and the improvement of China's cultural literacy, many readers with higher education levels have raised higher demands for The Cihai. Therefore, while continuing to compile new editions of The Cihai to meet the needs of the times, it is necessary to compile a larger-scale comprehensive dictionary than The Cihai, with more words and phrases and richer content. The compilation of The Great Dictionary is based on The Cihai, inheriting its strengths and expanding them, with a focus on adding new fields and new terms and meanings in various disciplines that The Cihai has not yet covered, while appropriately filling gaps. The entire dictionary contains approximately 250,000 entries and about 50 million words, more than twice that of The Cihai. It is compiled and published in volumes according to subject categories. Volume One contains over 8,500 entries related to medical science, with the selection scope including: basic terms of various disciplines in medical and health sciences, medical figures, historical and literary documents of traditional Chinese medicine, major theories and doctrines, physiological and pathological conditions and disease names of each human system, diagnostic methods and medical devices, as well as disease names and pathogens in infectious diseases, parasitology, and parasitic diseases that are related to the human body and closely linked to it. Volume Two is organized into three major categories: General, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Modern Medicine. Among them, Traditional Chinese Medicine is divided according to its traditional academic conventions into general terminology, historical and literary studies, basic theories, prescription and pharmacy, health preservation, and clinical medicine; Modern Medicine is organized into basic medicine, clinical medicine, rehabilitation medicine, preventive medicine, as well as military medicine and other special medical sciences, and pharmacy. The categories are arranged for the convenience of retrieval and do not represent the academic system.
