The content covers a broad range of topics, is well-structured, highly practical, and illustrated with diagrams. Each chapter not only presents fundamental knowledge but also includes practical case studies for further analysis, enabling readers to gain a deeper understanding of the material. Suitable for a wide audience, this book can serve as a textbook for computer hardware-related courses in major universities and vocational colleges, be used in computer training programs, or be referenced by beginners for learning and DIY purposes. It primarily focuses on the composition, working principles, common models, purchasing, and hardware assembly of new microcomputer systems (such as CPU, motherboard, memory, common input/output devices, cases, power supplies, etc.), as well as the composition and working principles of multimedia computers, installation and debugging, and troubleshooting techniques for common faults. Based on the previous two editions, this book has been supplemented with new content, making it even more comprehensive. It is suitable as a teaching material for vocational colleges and technical schools, training materials for various microcomputer maintenance courses, and a reference book for microcomputer enthusiasts and users engaged in microcomputer operation and maintenance, offering high practical value.
[Preface] With the rapid development of computer software and hardware technologies and the continuous expansion of computer applications, the number of computer users has surged. During the process of using computers, users often encounter various faults due to the quality of the computer itself or improper operation. To help users select high-quality, stable, and reliable microcomputers and smoothly resolve common faults, we have compiled the book Practical Techniques for Computer Assembly and Maintenance. Since the first and second editions of this book were published, they have been reprinted multiple times and have been selected by many institutions as teaching materials for computer maintenance, gaining widespread popularity among computer enthusiasts. However, with the swift advancement of microcomputer technology, the main components of microcomputers have been continuously updated, and new external devices have emerged. The original textbook could no longer meet the needs of readers. Therefore, we have made significant revisions to the original content, updated the introduction of microcomputer components (including CPU, motherboard, memory, hard drives, monitors, etc.), and added descriptions of new external devices (such as external hard drives, USB flash drives, digital cameras, etc.) along with purchasing and maintenance strategies to better cater to readers' requirements.
Combining our years of experience in computer maintenance and teaching practices, this book collects the latest hardware data on microcomputers and provides detailed instruction on the structure, performance, working principles, model selection, installation, debugging, and troubleshooting techniques for common software and hardware faults in new microcomputer systems. The revised Practical Skills Training Course for Computer Assembly and Maintenance (3rd Edition) includes 11 chapters:
Chapter 1 briefly introduces the components of a computer system and the basic functions of the major parts that make up a microcomputer.
Chapter 2 focuses on the composition, classification, and purchasing tips for motherboards.
Chapter 3 discusses the types and purchasing methods of central processors.
Chapter 4 introduces the classification of memory, the basic structures of various storage devices, and their purchasing methods.
It covers the classification, interfaces, structure, working principles, data protection technologies, main parameters and technical indicators, mainstream brands and models, and daily maintenance of hard drives.
It also introduces mobile storage devices, including floppy disks and drives, external hard drives, USB flash drives, etc., covering their classification, purchasing, and maintenance.
It explains the structure, working principles, technical parameters, and purchasing of optical drives, such as CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, DVD-ROM, DVD burners, and Combos, as well as the types, specifications, capacity, and recording principles of optical media.
Chapter 5 covers the classification, parameters, and purchasing of common input devices such as keyboards, mice, scanners, and digital cameras.
Chapter 6 discusses common output devices, including the classification of monitors, CRT monitors (classification, working principles, technical parameters, and purchasing), LCD monitors (working principles, technical parameters, and purchasing), basic structures of graphics cards, and an overview of popular display cards.
It also covers the classification, working principles, features, technical parameters, and maintenance of printers, as well as the classification, working principles, main components, technical parameters, and purchasing of scanners.
Chapter 7 introduces the classification, structure, and purchasing of computer cases, as well as the classification, structure, cable interfaces, working principles, quality indicators, and purchasing of power supplies.
Chapter 8 discusses the purchasing issues of multimedia devices such as sound cards, video cards, and speakers.
Chapter 9 covers the methods and techniques for assembling microcomputers.
Chapter 10 explains the installation and setting of drivers for Windows 2000.
Chapter 11 primarily introduces common testing and maintenance methods for microcomputers, as well as common faults and their solutions.
This book features up-to-date content, clear explanations, and illustrations, with a well-organized structure. It focuses on the structure, purchasing, and maintenance of basic components, combining them with the latest hardware products in the current microcomputer market to provide a practical and theoretical approach. Through studying this book and engaging in practical exercises, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of microcomputer systems while mastering the strategies for purchasing common components, assembly techniques, and troubleshooting skills. The book is appropriately sized, balancing theory and practice, making it suitable for both teaching and self-study. It is ideal as a textbook for computer majors in universities and vocational colleges, training materials for microcomputer maintenance courses, and a reference book for microcomputer enthusiasts and users, offering high practical value.
Although the content of this book has been supplemented and revised, due to the authors' limited expertise and tight deadlines, errors and inaccuracies may still exist. We sincerely welcome readers' feedback and corrections.
