Roman stories

Author: (Italian) Moravia Shen Aomei et al

Publishing Date: 1998-08-01
Features: The Story of Rome is one of the author's works with a strong sense of realism, consisting of 61 short stories. The protagonists are impoverished working masses living in the Rome metropolis after World War II. They include itinerant vendors, bar waiters, truck drivers, workers, street sweepers, tailors, barbers, as well as vagrants and servants. They are like coffee beans constantly spinning in a blender. To escape the torment of fate, some are forced to painfully abandon their newborn children to prevent innocent infants from suffering the same poverty as their families; others, in order to repay debts, resort to using counterfeit money and end up in the absurd situation of "losing money without even catching a chicken."
