Features: Plant biotechnology provides unprecedented opportunities for operating biological systems and has become a remarkable field in plant science. This book is a textbook for biotechnology courses and can be used by undergraduate and graduate students of different grades. It covers all important knowledge of plant tissue culture, including nutrient media, micropropagation, organ culture, cell suspension culture, haploid culture, protoplast isolation and fusion, secondary metabolites, somatic cloning variation, and cryopreservation. Additionally, to better understand DNA recombination technology, the author has added several chapters in the revised edition, including genetic material, the structure of DNA in the genome, and the basic techniques involved in DNA recombination. DNA recombination technology covers various contents, including gene cloning, plant gene isolation, transposons and gene markers, in vitro mutagenesis, PCR, molecular markers, molecular marker-assisted selection, transgenic technology, genomics, and bioinformatics. Among these, gene cloning is introduced in three chapters: one on enzymes, one on vectors, and one on cDNA and genomic cloning as well as sequence analysis of cloned DNA. The genomics in this book includes functional genomics, structural genomics, proteomics, sequencing status of different organisms, and DNA chip technology. Experimental procedures for each technique in the book are provided with specific steps. Regarding the applications of biotechnology, the author discusses the improvement of crops through transgenic technology and also provides a review of the impact of biotechnology on crop improvement. In the chapter on intellectual property, various forms of intellectual property, such as plant breeder's rights, biodiversity, and examples of patents, are introduced.
