Features: Zhou Guoping was born in 1945 and is currently a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His field is philosophy, and he has made significant contributions in the study of Nietzsche's thought and the translation of his works. However, his influence is not limited to academia. He engages in both philosophy and literature, in addition to academic works, he has written a large number of philosophical essays. Among various social strata, especially among young students and intellectuals, his works have many devoted readers. Despite this, Zhou Guoping has not become a public figure. As a scholar, he is content with solitude and has long refused interviews and publicity from the media. He insists that writers should speak only through their works. In an era where cultural products and their production processes are becoming increasingly commercialized, the fact that the works of such a serious author can still penetrate people's hearts and gain the spontaneous affection of numerous readers is a phenomenon worth reflecting on. Combining philosophy and literature, integrating reason and emotion, is a distinctive feature of Zhou Guoping's works. His philosophical treatises shimmer with poetic brilliance, while his literary essays radiate philosophical wisdom. Most of his works are free from academic obscurity in form and do not pursue artistic novelty, written in a simple and straightforward style, expressing personal insights that ordinary people can understand. This is undoubtedly one of the reasons for their popularity. However, the more important reason may lie in the fact that his works are permeated with serious reflections on major life issues and close attention to the spiritual lives of modern people, which resonates with the discerning minds of our time. Faced with the overwhelming tide of secularism, Zhou Guoping positions himself as a guardian, protecting the eternal spiritual values of life and overseeing the general direction of human spiritual life. During this period of social transformation, no matter how declining the moral climate may be, the human spirit still retains an irrepressible potential for upward movement. There will always be some people who value spiritual life more than material life, silently seeking the true meaning of life and caring about the future of humanity. It is easy to imagine that they form Zhou Guoping's relatively stable but limited readership. We do not believe that Zhou Guoping's works will be extremely popular, but we believe they have enduring vitality and will continue to be passed down, attracting new readers and kindred spirits. Based on this understanding, we have decided to publish this "Collected Works of Zhou Guoping." We hope to provide a complete version for readers who love and are to collect or study Zhou Guoping's works, and also to preserve a valuable resource for the spiritual and cultural heritage of our time. The collected works include the writings of Zhou Guoping written before the end of 1995, which were originally published in five volumes in 1996 and supplemented with a sixth volume in 2002. For this publication, it is divided into three volumes.
