Shanghai Township Old Records 1 (Jiading East Record, Lou Record, Shigang Guangfu Combined Record, Fangtai Record)

Author: Lü Shunxiang, edited by Wu Guchun
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2004-01-01
Features: This gazetteer consists of twenty-one volumes, respectively documenting regional affairs, transportation, taxation, local dialects, local products, customs, industries, self-governance, education, relief, public security, imperial examinations, literature, inscriptions and stone carvings, famous sites, disasters, anecdotes, prominent figures, temples and halls, folk songs, and riddles. Regarding the strengths and weaknesses of its format, due to my limited exposure to such gazetteers, I dare not make a judgment. However, the historical value of the preserved materials is unquestionable. Especially, given the ongoing wars for many years, the authors completed this gazetteer with their personal efforts, which is truly commendable!
