Features: Upon waking, Dr. Mark Sedman finds himself in the intensive care unit, told that his wife Monica has been murdered and his six-month-old daughter Tara is missing. Subsequently, his billionaire father-in-law receives a ransom note demanding two million dollars. Thus, a struggle unfolds between the stern and indifferent aristocrat, the displaced immigrant, and the federal agent, a story entwined with family, friendship, and love, a panoramic view spanning the noisy city, the tranquil countryside, and the chaotic Balkans, all gradually revealed through the author's zigzag narration.
