Features: Journalism education and communication research both originated in the West. The mainstream journalism education in the world began earliest in the United States. From the "Printing and Stenography" course offered by Washington College in 1869 to the formal establishment of the world's first journalism school at the University of Missouri in 1908, American journalism education established a tradition of emphasizing humanities foundations and professional skills training. Chinese journalism education has inherited this tradition from the very beginning. China began its journalism education during the process of Western learning spreading to the East. Chinese journalism education faces challenges under new social conditions, with both its cultivation philosophy and practice being far from ideal. We need to examine our long-adhered American tradition of journalism education, we need to pay attention to the changes and trends in global journalism education, and we must consider the impact of communication studies on the new era's journalism education. The purpose of this book is to study the influence of mainstream global journalism education trends in China and the evolution, current state, and development of Chinese journalism education, from the perspective of the origins and development of Chinese journalism education. Through the continuity and changes of journalism education in China and the United States, as well as vertical historical discussions and horizontal comparative studies between China and the United States, this book explores these aspects.
