[Preface] Hypertension is a common and prevalent disease that severely threatens human health. It can lead to functional or organic changes in vital organs such as the brain, blood vessels, heart, and kidneys. It is also a major cause of angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, heart failure, stroke, and kidney failure. The incidence of hypertension is high worldwide, and with the gradual improvement of living standards, its prevalence has been rising year by year in China. Hypertension can cause chronic damage to the body, and most patients may even show no symptoms, so many people are often unaware that they have hypertension. This makes prevention, detection, and treatment more challenging. The purpose of writing this book is to popularize knowledge about the prevention and control of hypertension, introduce methods for managing and daily rehabilitation, and help readers understand that hypertension is not an incurable disease. With reasonable medication and lifestyle improvements, blood pressure can be controlled to normal levels. By preventing and treating hypertension, the incidence and mortality of associated cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases can be effectively reduced. The book covers the concept and classification of hypertension, diagnosis and treatment, prevention and control, management of complications, personal care and family nursing for hypertensive patients, as well as how to choose a blood pressure monitor and measure blood pressure correctly. The language is clear and accessible, the content is tailored to the needs of patients, and the organization is well-structured, providing a comprehensive introduction to modern prevention and treatment of hypertension. This book can serve as a home "healthcare doctor" for patients and their families, as well as a reference for medical students and healthcare professionals. During the writing process, we referred to many publications. On behalf of all contributors, we sincerely thank the authors whose works were cited as references for this book. Although the authors have strived for perfection in the writing process, errors are inevitable. We welcome readers' feedback. By the authors, December 2005
