Features: Henan is one of the main birthplaces of Chinese civilization. It possesses world-famous archaeological sites such as the Nanzhao Ape Man, the Peiligang Culture, the Yangshao Culture, and the Longshan Culture. Throughout history, more than 20 dynasties have established their capitals in Henan, including the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties, Luoyang, the ancient capital of seven dynasties, Kaifeng, and the ancient capital of the Yin Shang dynasty, Anyang. These indicate that Henan has served as the political, economic, and cultural center of China at different periods.
The Series of Coin Discoveries in Henan is organized into several volumes based on the administrative divisions of Henan Province. If the manuscript of a particular region is not substantial enough to form a complete volume, it is compiled together with manuscripts from related or nearby prefectures. The content of each volume primarily focuses on coin materials unearthed and discovered in the respective prefecture or city, emphasizing the introduction of the excavation conditions, the types and varieties of unearthed coins, and their materials. Additionally, the series offers insightful analyses and research on the unearthed coins, striving for a balance between text and illustrations to highlight the data-rich and academic nature of the work.
Investigating, organizing, and researching the coin discoveries in a province over nearly half a century to compile a series on coin excavations and studies in that province is a pioneering effort in China. In terms of editorial style, content arrangement, and the selection of coin images, there are no existing precedents to follow.
