Features: Chinese martial arts have a long history and are diverse in style. Shaolin martial arts originate from Shaolin Temple on Songshan Mountain, renowned for its fame, and are one of the most famous martial arts schools in China. Since its establishment in the 19th year of the Taihe era of the Northern Wei Dynasty, Shaolin Temple has a history of over 1,500 years. Shaolin martial arts were not created by any single individual or monk but were gradually enriched and refined over centuries by monks and laypeople through their long lives, meeting the needs of daily life. According to the annals of Shaolin Temple, many monks were already skilled in martial arts before ordination or came seeking Shaolin's fame, driven by livelihood or disillusionment with the world, among other reasons. Shaolin Temple has always promoted martial arts and often sent martial monks to travel and seek masters. It also invited renowned martial arts masters to the temple, such as the Foju Zen Master of the Song Dynasty, who gathered eighteen martial arts masters to the temple for friendly competition, promoting the development of Shaolin martial arts and incorporating the strengths of various schools.
The author of this book has been practicing martial arts since childhood, learning from renowned masters such as Su Xi, Su Fa, and Li Zhanyuan of the Mantis Fist. In his youth, he eagerly studied martial arts at Shaolin Temple and won numerous awards in domestic and international competitions. The Mengzhou Shaolin Martial Arts Institute he founded is one of the most famous martial arts schools in China. His demonstration and instruction in the 36-volume "Traditional Shaolin Martial Arts" VCD, published by the People's Sports Audiovisual Publishing House, have also gained widespread recognition.
This series of books features over 30 traditional Shaolin routines and practical techniques, which are the core of Shaolin martial arts. Some of them are the author's unique insights and are well worth reading. The book also includes bilingual Chinese-English translations, removing language barriers for foreign enthusiasts and contributing to the global spread of Shaolin martial arts—a commendable achievement.
