Features: This book is a distinctive collection among similar reading materials. One of its features is the inclusion of exquisite contemporary essays, supplemented by some classic masterpieces. It also rarely repeats the selection of beautiful and touching articles. When compiling a humanities reading book, people often prioritize thoughts and ideological education while neglecting aesthetic and emotional education. The selected texts in this book not only consider the concept of "humanities" but also pay attention to the aspect of "language and literature." Many of the chosen articles have profound insights in terms of language and literature. These texts will guide readers to understand what constitutes an article, what makes a good article, how to write an article, and how we should narrate and analyze the world. The term "humanities" in this context carries a rich and broad meaning, representing a comprehensive concept of humanities. Each unit consists of 5–6 articles, with the first two being intensive reading texts and the remaining 3–4 being extensive reading texts. For the intensive reading texts, we have designed a "pre-reading hypothesis" before each article to create a sense of anticipation among students, helping them enter the reading process smoothly. We have also provided marginal notes for the first two articles in each unit to assist students in thinking while reading, broadening their reading horizons, and fostering a habit of inquiry. Whether for intensive or extensive reading texts, we have included thought questions and exercises at the end of each article (for the primary school section, titled "Humanities Thinking and Life Practice"; for the junior high school section, "Humanities Thinking and Writing Design"; and for the senior high school section, "Humanities Thinking and Understanding Exploration"). Additionally, we have set aside "Humanities Writing Practice" after each unit to help students engage in in-depth reflection and practical exercises after reading, strengthening the connection between reading, writing, and life, thereby making reading more meaningful. The articles selected for the New Humanities Reader are filled with many heart-stirring and profound meanings. Stories of love that create miracles, the transparent and pure sky of childhood, the warmth of virtue that nurtures the world, the calm and composed attitude in the face of setbacks, the fascinating and colorful landscapes of nature, and the vast and far-reaching prospects of science and technology—all these texts radiate a fragrant humanistic atmosphere and embody a deep humanistic foundation, captivating and thought-provoking. Beautiful writing is like tea—its fragrance becomes more intense with each sip; it is like a spring—its clarity deepens with each taste; it is like the sea—its depth becomes more apparent with each exploration; it is like a song—its charm grows with each listen. Approach the New Humanities Reader with a heart full of reading, and let your emotions move you. In that moment of emotion, you will realize that you have transformed from a cocoon into a butterfly, fluttering gracefully under the blue sky, in your heart. And then, you too will be the most beautiful.
