Features: Since its publication in 2002, this book has been highly favored by numerous postgraduate entrance exam candidates. The "close reading" review method and problem-solving approach advocated in the book have not only become the cornerstone of the postgraduate entrance exam English teaching system of New Oriental schools across the country but have also been increasingly recognized by many other instructors and schools. The main purpose of compiling this book is to transform the past years' exam papers into a model for close reading for all candidates. Among the vast array of postgraduate entrance exam study materials, past exam papers are the most authoritative and can best reflect the future exam's question-setting trends, and candidates should pay great attention to them. The most distinctive feature of this book is guiding candidates to learn vocabulary and syntax around the exam papers. In this process, candidates' abilities in vocabulary, sentence structure, and reference relations will be significantly improved, ultimately achieving the effect of "learning from one example and applying it to all," thereby comprehensively enhancing reading comprehension skills and exam-taking abilities. Each unit in this book consists of two parts:
1. Reading the Exam Paper Part. Candidates can complete this part within the time allowed in the exam to train their exam-taking skills.
2. Explanation Part. This section contains three components:
1. Classification and Summary of the Article's Content. The purpose of this section is mainly to help candidates understand the basic structure of the article, as well as to categorize, analyze, and compare similar articles in terms of content and genre in future readings.
2. Detailed Explanation of Language Points in the Article. According to the compilers' rough statistics, this section covers over 30% of the vocabulary in the postgraduate entrance exam syllabus. If we exclude low-difficulty words like "it," "can," and "make" from the syllabus, this section has explained more than half of the difficult words. This section not only provides the meanings of the syllabus vocabulary but also uses other methods such as word formation, associative memory, classic examples, and expanded meanings to assist in vocabulary learning. Through this section, candidates can not only fully grasp the meanings of the syllabus vocabulary but also accurately understand the precise meanings of the same word in different contexts.
3. Detailed Explanation of Difficult Sentences. The compilers have selected sentences from the text that are particularly challenging in terms of syntactic structure and content expression. They analyze the structure, explain the key points, and then provide the translation. This section not only improves candidates' ability to understand complex and difficult sentences but also greatly helps in enhancing their translation skills.
