Please ask if a uterine septum affects childbirth?

Patient's question:

Please ask if a transverse uterus will affect childbirth? Is it treatable? Is it expensive?

Doctor's answer:

Vaginal septum is a common cause of infertility or habitual abortion. According to reports, it accounts for 40% of infertility cases and at least two or more previous miscarriages in 35% of cases before confirmation. If treatment for vaginal septum is required, surgical methods are typically used, often involving the incision of the vaginal septum along with the removal of the uterus. This approach involves significant trauma, a long recovery period, and most importantly, requires contraception for 3 to 4 years before pregnancy. Delivery must be performed via cesarean section, posing considerable risks.
If hysteroscopy is used for diagnosis and treatment, the incision of the vaginal septum becomes simple and quick, with a shorter operation time, less bleeding, minimal trauma, and faster recovery. Postoperative recovery is not required, allowing for pregnancy to be achieved sooner.
