What are the clinical manifestations of childhood ADHD?

Patient's question:

The child is only 12 years old, male, not very tall, and recently has been feeling strange. He also looks very uncomfortable. After going to the hospital for a check-up, he was diagnosed with this condition. I would like to know what are the clinical manifestations of ADHD in children?

Doctor's answer:

ADHD manifests as: excessive motor activity, inattention, and messy handwriting; children with the condition may also be stubborn, unsociable, lack self-control, exhibit or eccentric behavior, have motor tics, or engage in purposeless activities, play excessively, skip school, fight in groups, or even lie or steal, with teaching proving ineffective. In very few cases, adults may still retain personality and behavioral deficits. This is what constitutes childhood ADHD, which typically occurs before the age of 6. If a child simply enjoys playing, there is nothing wrong with that.
