How come my period hasn't come yet?

Patient's question:

My period arrived on the 11th of last month. Every month it's about two to three days early, and it's always very regular. This month, it should come around the 8th or 9th. I had intercourse on the 23rd, 24th, and 29th of last month, and I didn't use any form of birth control. A few days ago, my breasts were swollen, and recently, my nipples look a bit different—they're a bit darker and feel a bit stuffy. Sometimes I have a slight bloating or abdominal pain, and I've been urinating more frequently. I feel very tired. What could be wrong with me? It's urgent. Thank you, doctor.

Doctor's answer:

The menstrual cycle of women is generally 28 to 30 days. It is still within the normal range if it is advanced or delayed by about 7 days. The length of the cycle varies from person to person. However, if menstruation does not arrive after more than 7 days, it is considered delayed menstruation. The main reasons to consider for delayed menstruation are primarily pregnancy, followed by menstrual disorders. Generally, after sexual intercourse, a pregnancy test can detect whether one is pregnant within 14 days. After the sperm and egg meet and combine, it usually takes 10 to 12 days for implantation to occur, after which hormonal changes in the body will begin to appear.
