Do all children with strabismus need surgery?

Patient's question:

A girl is 6 years old this year. I have also been treating this disease and taking medication, but there has been no improvement. I am also very frustrated. I have tried many methods, but none have worked. Please ask: Does every child with strabismus need surgery?

Doctor's answer:

Strabismus in children is divided into two types. The first type of strabismus does not require surgery; it can be corrected by wearing glasses. Clinically, the most common type of strabismus is accommodative esotropia, except for one type that must be surgically treated. The timing of surgery varies. Children with congenital esotropia generally need surgery before the age of two, while children with intermittent exotropia should have surgery based on the condition of binocular vision destruction. Children with paralytic strabismus must undergo surgery immediately after the strabismus is detected, as failure to do so will affect the child's facial bones and cheek, in addition to spinal growth and development.
