Features: Sketch teaching is a crucial foundational course in visual arts education. It should be a complete teaching system rooted in aesthetic principles. Its purpose is not only to teach students how to describe the appearance of forms but, more importantly, to help them understand the laws and overall content of visual arts. This includes the rules and techniques for shaping forms, encompassing aspects such as proportion, perspective, contour, light and shadow, volume, texture, and grain, while also incorporating profound aesthetic thinking. Sketch teaching equips students with an overall observational approach and artistic ways of thinking and perception, which determines how they observe, appreciate, and express nature. Sketch art teaching should provide students with a high starting point, inspiring them to recognize the essence of natural forms and guiding them on how to grasp the essence beyond the surface manifestations of natural forms, as well as how to reflect the inherent universal laws of the natural world.
Basic steps of sketching:
1. Composition: Arrange the large-scale form of the object on paper while considering the relationships between elements such as surfaces, light and shadow, rhythm, harmony, and balance in the composition.
2. Depict the proportion, shape, and internal structure of the object.
3. Use lines, planes, and light and shadow tones to shape the object's volume, space, relative prominence, texture, and sense of weight.
4. The completed sketch should: reflect a high level of artistic refinement, be vivid and concrete. Creatively elevate the representation of natural forms into artistic forms, demonstrating noble ideas and artistic principles based on visual laws.
