Can vulvar leukoplakia be treated?

Patient's question:

All symptoms: leukoplakia of the vulva, itching at night, poor elasticity. Onset time and cause: About a year ago, external itching; discovered leukoplakia of the vulva during a physical examination in October 2009. Treatment status: The doctor at the hospital said that leukoplakia of the vulva is currently difficult to treat. Help needed: Can leukoplakia of the vulva be treated? Are there any good methods?...

Doctor's answer:

Analysis of the condition: Chronic external dysplasia, formerly known as "leukoplakia of the vulva."
Advice and recommendations: If it is of the hyperplastic type, the main symptom is severe itching. Apply 1% hydrocortisone ointment to relieve itching, while also improving local lesions. For the (sclerotic lichen planus type), apply a 2% testosterone propionate fish oil ointment (200 mg testosterone propionate added to 10 g of 20% fish oil ointment) three to four times daily until the skin softens, adhesions loosen, and itching disappears. The (lichen planus type) can also be treated with laser therapy. If atypical hyperplasia is present, with localized ulcerative or nodular lesions, a simple vulvectomy may be performed.
It is important to maintain cleanliness and dryness of the external genital skin, avoid using soap or other irritating medications for washing; prevent scratching; avoid spicy or irritating foods; wear loose-fitting clothing that is changed frequently, preferably made of cotton, as the fabric should be soft and highly absorbent.
