Patient's question:
Medical Description: For over two months, I have been experiencing frequent abdominal pain. I have undergone two D&C procedures, and after the surgeries, there were a few small cysts in the uterus.History of Treatment and Effect: After seeking medical attention, my condition improved, but the recovery process was relatively slow.
Help Needed: I would like to understand more about the post-treatment situation.
Doctor's answer:
Gestational trophoblastic disease is a benign lesion of the fertilized egg itself, but approximately 15% of cases can become malignant. Therefore, once diagnosed, immediate surgical evacuation should be performed. About 7 days after the first surgery, a second (D&C) is usually required. Postoperatively, a urine pregnancy test should be conducted once a week or a blood HCG test once a week until it turns negative. Subsequently, monthly check-ups should be performed, followed by every three months after six months and every six months after one year, for a total of two years of follow-up, during which pregnancy should be avoided.Having had gestational trophoblastic disease does not affect the chances of getting pregnant again, but the risk of developing it again still exists. After one episode of gestational trophoblastic disease, the risk of recurrence is less than 1/50; after two episodes, the risk increases to 1/6; and after three episodes, the risk rises to 1/2.
