Patient's question:
Medical History Description: My period started on July 23rd and lasted for a normal seven days. Later, it became irregular and stopped completely. On August 8th, the bleeding increased, but now it is very minimal. Previously, my period was always regular, but I have poor digestion and often suffer from stomach issues. My spleen is severely deficient.Past Treatment and Effects: I have taken Gong Xue Ting and Chinese medicine.
What I Want to Achieve: Since my menstrual flow has nearly stopped, I don’t really want to have a D&C procedure. However, I’m afraid it might continue to be irregular or lead to sudden heavy bleeding. My family suggests a D&C, but I’m hesitant.
I would like to consult:
- If I have a D&C, will the endometrium thicken again when my next period comes? Or will one procedure normalize it?
- If the bleeding is already minimal, is it still necessary to have a D&C?
- Will the endometrium return to normal after a D&C?
Thank you!
Doctor's answer:
If the endometrium frequently thickens, a D&C (dilation and curettage) procedure can be performed. Generally, abdominal pain may occur two days after the surgery, which is considered to be caused by uterine contractions and is not a serious issue, as it will usually resolve on its own. If abdominal pain occurs one week after the surgery, it may indicate an intrauterine infection. It is recommended to go to the hospital for examination to confirm the diagnosis and receive appropriate treatment.Generally, if a small amount of vaginal bleeding occurs after the surgery, the color may be bright red, dark brown, light pink, or light brown, and there are usually no blood clots. The bleeding should stop within two weeks. On the day of the surgery, there may be mild, dull abdominal pain, which should disappear afterward, or occasional mild abdominal discomfort may persist.
