Many candidates feel lost and seek timely guidance when planning how to allocate approximately one year for exam preparation. To better meet their needs, this book provides a detailed writing study plan in three parts. The first part is the foundation section, intended for use from March to June, focusing on practicing past exam questions to solidify writing skills. Chapter 1 provides past exam questions from 1997 to 2006. We recommend candidates follow the time limits: 15–20 minutes for short essays and 30–40 minutes for long essays. For sections without short essays, candidates can choose alternative topics. By practicing past questions, they can understand the question styles and identify their weaknesses. To build a strong foundation, Chapter 2 offers numerous sentence structures covering various aspects, while Chapters 3 and 4 provide writing principles and techniques, aiming to assist candidates.
The purpose of the second part is to strengthen writing awareness and enhance (exam-taking skills). This section analyzes the syllabus and reading standardized essays to reinforce the significance of writing. Chapter 1 provides targeted analysis of the exam syllabus, scoring criteria, and question types. The commentary in Chapter 2 allows candidates to carefully examine the word choice, sentence construction, and organizational strategies in sample essays. Based on the author’s teaching experience, many students have a decent English level but lack practice, resulting in weak writing awareness and difficulty in expressing ideas. By studying sample essays, they can quickly improve their writing skills.
Expanding vocabulary and practicing writing are the focus of the third part. Here, candidates can complete writing tasks using provided vocabulary, topic-related words, and common sentence structures. Chapter 4 introduces various practical writing formats, while Chapter 5 offers multiple essay topics and sample answers for practice and reference.
The third part aims to consolidate and improve writing skills, suitable for use from September to the following January. As the exam approaches, candidates need practical exercises. We believe that writing one essay per week and covering various question types will make their review more effective. Additionally, the author advises candidates to write essays in a notebook rather than scattering them on paper or discarding them after completion. Keeping essays in a notebook helps preserve them and allows candidates to review their progress, identify areas for improvement, and continuously discover weaknesses. In the final review phase, they can revisit all their past essays to refresh their knowledge and enhance their preparation.
