Patient's question:
During the 4D ultrasound, the doctor said there was a bright spot in the left atrium of the fetus. If it doesn't disappear with the growth of the fetus later on, will the baby have any problems when he/she grows up?Doctor's answer:
Heart strong echo spots refer to small calcifications with echo intensity similar to bone density that reappear in the papillary muscle or in the random ventricle. They can be present in a single ventricle or both ventricles, and can be solitary or multiple. They gradually weaken as the gestational week progresses and disappear within the first year at the latest. Their formation may be related to inflammation, thickening, and fibrosis of the papillary muscle tendons. They are harmless and do not affect heart function. The probability of isolated fetal abnormalities is low, but the risk increases if accompanied by any other abnormalities. Consider fetal MRI, electrocardiogram, or amniocentesis.
